Applying to Become a Judge
1st July 2020
This proved to be a very popular session for both employed and self-employed barristers. The Judicial Diversity Committee supports the Lord Chief Justice in encouraging diversity on the bench.
The Committee decided to develop a programme of seminars, the aim of which is to provide delegates with an opportunity to learn more about the different judicial roles that are open to all lawyers, whatever their personal or professional backgrounds and to gain a fuller understanding of the Judicial Appointment Commission selection process.
Speakers District Tribunal Judge Manjit Gill, District Judge Ranj Matharu and Brie Stevens-Hoare QC outlined the selection process, the competency frameworks and eligibility along with career progression and presented a selection of case studies.
We are hoping to organise a similar session next year.
