BACFI's 50th Anniversary Dinner

BACFI celebrated its 50th Anniversary in quite some style on 25 September 2015 at the House of Lords. The assembled guests looked magnificent in their black tie as they were escorted around the Palace of Westminster in small groups for very informative tours taking in Westminster Great Hall, the Lobby and both of the Houses’ debating Chambers. Post tour, there was pre-dinner drinks to be enjoyed, as well as the opportunity for some shopping in the rather wonderful House of Lord’s Shop. It appeared that the limited edition House of Lord’s Gin was a popular choice!
At the start of the dinner, short speeches were given by BACFI’s retiring President, Lord Hoffman, and by the Chairman, Lucinda Orr, where particular emphasis was laid on how critical the role of BACFI is in supporting the employed Bar, just as much now, as at its inception 50 years ago. There was also a presentation of an engraved silver Armada dish to Helen and David Fletcher Rogers, to thank them both for 50 years of unstinting service to BACFI and being such a large cause of BACFI’s success. Then the 90 or so assembled members and their guests enjoyed a tasty 3-course dinner. The evening has received excellent feedback, with many requests that this be a more regular occurrence than once every half a century! The Committee will see what they can do... Lastly, as ever, the evening owed a large part of its success to Sandra Janes, the indefatigable Administrator of BACFI for all her organisational skill.
